This is a vrml editor i made in visual basic5.(Click to see a screenshot), you can download and use it free.
The editor can :
Open and save files on disk , save a complete blaxxun frameset with configuration wizard, modify colors , textures , scales , translations and more paramenters of selected shapes(but shapes inside protos or shapes with anchor or touchsensor can not be selected) , clone the selcted shape , delete the selected shape , make animations and morphing from an existent shape , add shapes to the world (shere , box , cone ,cylinder , text ), add viewpoints to the world , add objects to the world from file, modify background and fog ,add landscapes and grid , see the selected node in the nodes tree , edit VRML source in VRMLPad ,save a screenshot bitmap , in the help there is a guide of the editor , a tutorial , the vrml97 guide and a help for parameters in bxx files for the blaxxun frameset.

To install:

Download the install file clicking here ,(3.2 Mb) open setup.exe and follow the installation instructions (They are in 5 languages) during installation you ll have to install also visual basic runtime modules(vb runtime mod. are included in the installation package and installation will start automatically).
Installation should work anyway but you should better have installed on your computer blaxxun contact ,and vrmlpad

The source code:

The source code is written in visual basic5, it uses the blaxxun contact ocx and the internet explorer microsoft control, it uses also the automatation for vrml pad.
I used also some little snippets from planet source code tto read and write text files.
I made all the rest.
The code a little bit commented still , i ll make it better.
You can download the source code in a self-extracting zip archive clicking here (0.7 Mb) after download open it and extract all the files to a folder, in that folder open then proyect32.vbp ,you should have installed on your computer blaxxun contact and vrml pad, if there are problems opening the project then open the menù project -->components and add "blaxxuncc3d control module" then it project -->"references" add "vrmlpad application library" , "blaxxunVRML 1.0 type library, 4.0".
if visual basic can't foun the blaxxun control you have to draw it in the form1 in the position left 3240 , top 2520 and name it b3d.

Test:

I tested this editor on win 98 in 3 computers .
If there are problems after installation you may try to install the visual basic runtime modules
If when the program starts you got an error like "blaxxun...ocx is not registred" or the program doesn't start then you should install blaxxun contact
Some times there are problems in modifyng nodes like text , if somone can help me with this problems.
please write me an e-mail . In the program's help there are more informations.
The editor then works well i hope, if you found problems or bugs please write me.
Everytime there is an error a text field displays info about the error , if this happen please write me an email telling me what was you doing and the error, it's difficult for me to find all the errors because may be the way i use the editor is different from the way you use it

You can download the source code and use it as you like , if you solve problems or you add something please let me know.

Update:
The selected shape can be cloned and deleted,
the texture can be changed added and removed,
the texture can be changed between movie texture (with images or sound ) and image texture,
The selcted node can be see in the nodes tree,
a landscape with texture can be added to the world and removed ,
a fractal landscape with random mountais can be added and removed ,
a grid can be added and removed ,
many errors has been removed,
there is a label giving context help,
A new help file
A new tutorial
there is a label that displays your position and rotation in the world and the frame rate
Errors during installation has been removed.

It will help me a lot if you write me an e mail telling me how the editor works on your computer.
